About This Track

Speaking with Songfacts about this song in a 2011 interview, John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants said: “You know, I did not know what a Sleestak was until I met my wife, who does an imitation of a Sleestak, which is, I guess, a creature from a television program called Land of the Lost.”

One of the most fun songs to sing from Join Us. Didn't like it at first, but it's grown to be one of the most addictive songs for me recently.

This song is fucking strange even by TMBG standards.

This is the first TMBG song I've liked in years.

"Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, in recent centuries using vitreous enamel, and in older periods also inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné." (wikipedia.org)

I agree about the production, but I think I'll get over that pretty quickly. I welcome the return to the crazy days of the Pink Album and Lincoln.

Eh. I like it, but I feel like the attempt to return to the sound of early TMBG is sounding a bit too clean, and a tad overproduced. They made a smooth and elegant transition to the crunchy guitars and rock melodies of their last fifteen years of work. It's a little sad to see them abandoning that. [2]

i think a lot of their sound being more "lo-fi" in the eighties had to do with them using old casios and stuff like that. it's just going to sound lo-fi no matter what due to the equipment. now they have all this new technology at their disposal, so it's bound to sound nice and well produced.
