Biography

TheVodka was formed as ,,Vamp” in 1989 by four ex-members of speed-trash-metal band called ,,Hammer” - Schenker (git), Osuch (bass), Kliman (dr) and Yarkk (git, voc) Idea was to create a glam-parody band with extremally vulgar lirycs and simple riffs - just for fun. But - like it happend very often - this joke turned into spectacular succes. First songs:,,Wiruje Swiat” ,, Sp…laj Stad” ,,For Girls” were recorded, but only last one, written in English was played on the air. Band was immidiately banned from most music clubs and bigger venues in Silesia, Poland, due to alcohol fuelled excesses and lirycs full of insults and sexism. But that was exactly what Vamp intended to be - and people started to love it. Because all members lived in diffrent parts of Poland, band moved to Krakow to establish kind of base-camp. But in long run it was impassible to play together - so group in this shape lasted only one year. After split Yarkk joined The Outlaws – and they took over name Vamp. With this crew – Emil (bass) Malarz (git) Daffi (dr) and big help of Mr Hayto (managment) band started to make its way to the top, and most of songs were written in this time. Live TV appearance with ,, Zimna Jak Lod” turned to a big scandal – because of lirycs and band behaviour, whole show was banned from the air. Even if it helps at the beginning – next gigs were sold imiedietly and Vamp started to play bigger venues - after this all doors to TV and Radio stations were shut. Eventually ballad ,, Sila Zycia” reached 6th position in radio charts, but again was banned because of lirycs. Twice, plying open-air venues power was cutted down and band called off the stage because ,, Wiruje Swiat” – most nasty and sexist song in Vamp arsenal. None of these tunes were properly recorded, and no record label dare to release such material – all calls to soften lirycs were turned down by the band. In 1993 Raff become new rythm guitarist, but Vamp, unable to make progress without records, gave up in 1994. Yarkk joined Schenker, Osuch and Klimann again in Lost Boyz (wich is another story to tell), Raff formed new band with Maciek (dr) and Gucio (bass) playing some of Vamp songs and gigging around Krakow. Yarkk joined them back in 1997- The reunion party sorted out all aspects of cooperation including new name – they decided to not use Vamp anymore, and its no rocket sience to figure out why DeVodka came up:-). With new songs like ,,Wsciekle Psy”,, Piwo“ or ,, Sam” Band started again from the beginning. But wherever they played – there was always big cheer from old Vamp fans demanding old songs. And that how it remains – TheVodka were popular live band, but new name fooled no one in media industry. And without chances for radio or TV promotion, band continues to play live, proud to be real rock’n’rollas. Power of the band was based on strong lirycs and harsh, brutal sound and it was exactly the same factors wich stopped group on the way up. TheVodka split in 2004, and all tunes on this page were recorded in Raff’s and Yarkk’s home studios in 2008 - 09, drums were programmed by Yarkk, he also recorded bass guitar and made final mixing. There is over 20 songs left to be re-recorded, just to complete picture of good, old, wild times…
