Emil Richards, born Emilio Joseph Radocchia on September 2, 1932 in Hartford, Connecticut, is a percussionist who plays a variety of different percussion instruments. Richards started playing the xylophone at age six. He graduated from the Julius Hartt School of Music (now part of the University of Hartford) and Hillard College.

The Stench Band was formed in Omaha, Nebraska (of all places!) in the early 1970s. It was a mix of different artists, with huge influence from Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band. While largely unnoticed at the time, it gained a modicum of popularity in the late 1990s, when someone bought a used album at a garage sale. Finally, someone noticed!
