Biography

There is more than one group called the Weathermen. It is the name of both an band and an NYC collective.

1) The Weathermen is an supergroup, consisting of Tame One, Breeze Brewin, El-P, Cage, Aesop Rock and Yak Ballz. Former members include Camu Tao (deceased), Copywrite, Vast Aire, Masai Bey, and Jakki da Motamouth. They released a mixtape in 2003 titled The Conspiracy on Eastern Conference Records.

In the summer of 2010, Cage announced on his facebook page that he and Aesop Rock were working on a collaborative effort, and that there would be no further Weathermen-wide releases in light of Camu Tao’s passing.

Aesop Rock refers to the group on the hidden track of his latest album, None Shall Pass.

2) The Weathermen emerged out of the mid- “electronic body music” wave. They were noted for their sarcastic social commentary lyrics over beat-driven melodies.

They became a fairly marketable commodity, with over 100,000 records sold, 18 albums released in total, two video clips on heavy rotation on MTV, three European tours and an American Tour, and one of their songs, “Poison” even making it into the German Top 50 singles chart.
