Venus in Furs (5:10)

The classic, musical adaption of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s homage to feminine dominance. Published in 1870, VENUS IN FURS created such a sensation that it was his name that became the root behind “Masochism.” Velvet Underground created this musical tribute to the dark side of sexuality in what has become an underground classic within the S/m scene.

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girl child in the dark
Comes and goes, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

First time I heard this song, I thought that was the last time, but somehow I started listening to it very often. Now I think that this song is what art is supposed to be.

This song changed the way I listened to music, haven't heard it in a while. One thing I love about it is that it's one of the few things that Glee will never be able to cover/wreck. But at the same time....I'd kind of like to see them try it.

It's like a fucking psychedelic emporium, a scary place full of pretty things. I don't think my mind will ever be prepared for this song.

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather; Whiplash girlchild in the dark, Comes in bells, Your servant, don't forsake him, Strike, dear mistress, And cure his heart...Downy sins of streetlight fancies, Chase the costumes she shall wear, Ermine furs adorn the imperious, Severin, Severin awaits you there...Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather, Severin, down on your bended knee; Taste the whip, In love not given lightly, Taste the whip-Now, PLEAD for me. (always thought "Bleed" would be apt, too). Superb lyrics; the sound-OHH. Taking the essence of this extraordinary, dark book and setting it to sound; to borrow from Johnny Thunders and apply it here, it's opera. Genius!
