Biography

There have been several bands called the Vagrants. Most of you would know the Vagrants from the 60’s with Leslie West. There is also a barber shop quartet based in LA. and a rock outfit from Australia (see below).

The original Vagrants were a Long Island-based rock and blue-eyed soul group from the 1960s. The group was composed of Peter Sabatino on vocals, harmonica, and tambourine, Leslie West on vocals and guitar, Larry West on vocals and bass guitar, Jerry Storch on organ, and Roger Mansour on drums.

By 1965, the group had developed a professional press kit and had gained the interest of the semi-professional Southern Sound record label and soon released a single: Oh Those Eyes b/w You’re Too Young. Though the single wasn’t very popular, it did gain the attention of directors Vince Scarza and Douglas Hickox, who were directing a Beach Party film called “Disk-o-Tek Holiday,” which featured various music artists performing songs throughout the film. The clip that featured The Vagrants performing “Oh Those Eyes” is now considered a classic piece of mid-sixties history. However, The Vagrants weren’t that thrilled with just one single and an unpopular sequence in a Beach Party film, and were soon signed to the “folkie” label Vanguard. It was then that the group released their first minor hit: I Can’t Make a Friend, which is frequently found on garage band compilations and is one of their most recognizable early efforts.

    Because Last FM dosen't care what we want, they can make a cent off the contemporary Vagrants but not the 60's ones so this picture stay of course. Pathetic, not subscribing ever again until this picture is removed.

    How in the name of God is it possible that the 'Stuttgart' pic of the contemporary Vagrants has a minus-15 vote balance, but remains the main photo, whereas the most popular pic of the sixties Vagrants has a vote balance of +50, but remains #2...? (+1)

    Far out!! So much negativity, this should all be about music and enjoying it. This page is not exclusive to ANY vagrants and if the barber shop quartet in America were touring I would expect to see their pics up here also. The pics up here when you are touring makes sense for advertising purposes. If the original Vagrants are touring then their pics should be on the profile. Seriously just enjoy the music that you want to listen to. And to Genigir calling me a bastard is pretty low! I dont think the original Vagrants would appreciate their fans being so rude. Their songs are about RESPECT. Maybe you should show some.

    Unfortunately Lastfm doesnt distinguish between bands with the same name. Get over the fact that you cant see the picture you want and just listen to the music. The 'new' Vagrants is a current band and is popular, maybe not so much on lastfm but they are a hard working touring band. Why give them shit!

    I've flagged the "official image" of the unpopular Vagrants - it already has 10 thumbs down. Suggest more people do that. Lastfm do tend to remove these sort of imposed images on multiple artist sites.

    Okay folks, yes there is another picture up here and its not the Vagrants from the 60's. Sorry to disappoint some of you. The Vagrants from Australia have been touring extensively for the last 6 years and it is only right to have their photo up here when announcing tour dates. You can still listen to the 60's Vagrants and the modern Vagrants anytime here on lastfm.
