Biography

Falkenberg, Sweden (2010 – present)

The Unguided is a five-piece melodic death metal band from Falkenberg, Sweden, formed by Richard Sjunnesson, after his departure from Sonic Syndicate. Later, he was joined by (also former Sonic Syndicate singer) Roland Johansson, and (then) Sonic Syndicate guitarist Roger Sjunnesson and drummer John Bengtsson and current Cipher System bassist Henric Carlsson. Drummer John Bengtsson left the band and in late 2012 The Unguided found their current drummer, Richard Schill.

Biography

Before The Unguided was formed, all of the core members played in the Swedish metal band Sonic Syndicate (first known as Fallen Angels). Vocalist Roland Johansson left in 2009 due to issues with extensive touring. In October 2010, it was announced that vocalist Richard Sjunneson would not take part of the rest of the We Rule the Night tour to spend more time with his family, but a couple of days after he announced the break was permanent, that he left Sonic Syndicate due to creative differences.[3][4] Richard went on to form the new band, The Unguided, together with Roland Johansson and Roger Sjunnesson

On December 22, 2010, Richard revealed on his blog that the band would be releasing two brand-new songs in January. On January 9, 2011 the band revealed the artwork and title for their upcoming EP, Nightmareland. The artwork was done by Kuang Hong. The layout and booklet design was made by Gustavo Sazes, the same person who made the artwork for the Sonic Syndicate EP Burn This City. An alternative version of the artwork for later re-issues of the EP was made by Jose A.

Fallen Angels is leagues beyond anything they've done so far. Fragile Immortality was a disappointment. This is awesome. A return to form and then some!

I really love The Unguided, I think something they are doing better then most is the way they start a song and the songs are really catchy. Hell Frost is one of my favorite albums ever.

I dunno, I think Roger is a talented songwriter. I mean, he wrote the first three SoSy albums for crying out loud. But something seems to have gone amiss with this album. I still hope to see them pick up the pace with the next album. I've grown sort of attached to this band, having been there since the beginning and all... Still, for now, I'll stick with dEMOTIONAL, Mekanism and Decode the Design instead.

Honestly, I don't see The Unguided as very special or even particularly talented. I do however enjoy Hell Frost very much for for it's simplistic pop-ish sound. Very catchy metal imo. I feel Fragile Immortality lost that, making it just... nothing special at all.

I wouldn't say it's terrible per se, as much as it's just incredibly bland and samey...

Gotta say.. Fragile Immortality really sucks. I mean, I tried to give it many spins and everything but it's just a terrible album. Hell Frost was way better. I'm seriously disappointed.

So... Sonic Syndicate has released the first single off their upcoming self titled album. And I've gotta say... It sounds pretty badass. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RxHJeKNXSQ

I was recommended this band because I like Killswitch Engage. I do indeed like melodic death metal and enjoyed Sonic Syndicate before their ultimate demise. I think I'll need much more listening before I can decide if I like it or not.

@allen7 Totally agree. It is great but closer to American metal than Scandinavian death metal.

@JuliAAAJ ...The Unguides is great band, but they are not even close to death metal... im not saying that they should be or something...i like them just as they are right now, just saying that this isn't death metal..

New album is fucking awesome. The Unguided is a band that is taking death metal to a new level. Every thing they do is better than the previous stuff. Hell Frost was so good. Fragile Immortality is the fucking glory... In a few years we'll get a third album totally out of this universe.

Really had to spin Fragile Immortality a few times before I liked it. A pleasant surprise considering how bland it appeared on first listen. :)
