Unluckily, Greg Dulli was feeling sick yesterday at AB ... the set didn't have the usual energy (he was sitting down most of the time) and I think it was also shortened, yet it was good ... Dulli's singing was pretty much "intact"... coming from deep down below ... maybe even deeper down below, actually it came with even more conviction when he yelled To Tough To Die after apologising for his sickness and lack of partymood. His piano songs were deeply heartfelt ... the man's a master of expression ... he gave it his everything. I haven't seen/heard what I expected, instead I've seen/heard a different side, fragile, with violons (very good!!) and a lot of piano. Get well soon Greg, you've got a whole tour to go.
Inspite of having become a f*cking post-rock addict, I am and will always be a twilightsinger. It got me through my f*cking depression, recognizing my own shit throughout almost every song on She Loves You, Blackberry Belle and in lesser extent Powder Burns. Mezmerized by an unreachable SHE, finally torne apart by her playfullness, to become my Nemesis. Wholly crap ... it sounds fresh but it's past. I've got it under control. Now, THE NEW ALBUM DYNAMITE STEPS ... there's no frustration nor anger anymore ... it's more like he rejoyces now. There's only a fraction of the earlier she ... I Get Lucky ... is it only my hearing ? On The Corner ... very much TTS. Never Seen No Devil ... BEAUTIFUL ! I got it deeper for the earlier work, the new one's got a new vibe underneath. In any case, no voice sounds like Greg Dulli ! See you again at AB30/3 ! Utterly HAPPY you're back Greg ... but you've never been away, really !!
