About this album

Released on October 23, 2006, “Between the Start, the Stars, and Where We Are was the first ambitious release of The Timber Owls. Recorded in just three short months, the 11-track album was a work of sweat, sleep deprivation, and imagination. Written in two sections, the first 6 songs were written with more keyboard and orchestral elements to them. Composer and musician David Ishizaka broke away from his comfort zone, and used mainly a keyboard to write and record the first half of the album, relying heavily on trumpets, horns, piano, and strings. For the second half of the album, he featured more folk-inspired, guitar-driven songs. Upon its completion, The Timber Owls released each song in pairs on their myspace page, which they allowed to be downloaded and streamed for one week, until two new songs were put up. Along with each track pairing, a short blog was included that detailed the writing process of each song. Some of these songs would find their ways onto newer Timber Owls releases, though some just slightly re-worked.
