4 Feb 2008, 17:07 by cruz992Here is my Top 25 List of All-Time Favorite Power Pop Albums. I worked on this list for submittal to a poll on the (soon to be defunct) Audities mailing list, a poll which was inspired by the newish book by John Borack "Shake Some Action: The Ultimate Power Pop Guide".
It changed quite a bit from my first draft, from basically a list of my current faves, to a list more far-reaching in scope, as seen from the view of my many years as a power pop fan. This shift has homogenized the list quite a bit, to mostly feature mostly the well-known power pop Gods.
Despite my previous point, there are no Beatles albums to be found on the list, simply because I consider them bigger than power pop.
Three more albums that I loved, The Orgone Box' self titled debut, The Grip Weeds "House of Vibes" and Chris Bell's "I Am the Cosmos", didn't make the cut with me (though they made Borack's list) because I personally don't consider them power pop. …

21 Mar 2006, 16:54 by popgurl1985 was a particularly excellent year in live music for me. I was a junior/senior at the University of Wisconsin. I’d gotten to know many of my favorite musicians and they were recommending other bands I’d like. I had a great best friend with a van with two bucket seats and we’d throw a futon in the back and just hit the road whenever bands we loved came round. We had some other friends in the midwest we’d meet up with, and we’d be our own little moveable party. Plus everyone who was remotely cool was coming through Madison, it was (and still is I guess) a town that bands on the college radio circuit couldn’t possibly miss. So here are my reminiscences. Sadly, my memory for details of the shows themselves is somewhat less than my memories for the social life surrounding the shows. I don’t know if anyone is even reading these anyway, but it’s fun for me to make a somewhat fuller record after all these years. So if only for me, here’s 1985.
12 Mar 2006, 05:03 by popgurlPart 3 of my log of concerts attended in the 1980s, local bands removed unless they did well enough to have a link on last.fm lo these many years later. 1981 and 1982 were fun, very fun, but this is where it starts to get really interesting for me. I’m living in Madison Wisconsin and I’m about to embark on the best musical years of my life. If you missed my 1981 and 1982 entries, they’re in the journal.
Elvis Brothers (4 times): fun Urbana local band, blah blah, friends, saw them a zillion times.
Bow Wow Wow. They had kind of peaked a couple of years earlier with ‘I Want Candy’ and were almost retro by ’83, but it was still neat to see them a second time.
Spooner. Madison band. Butch Vig on drums, see 1982 entry if you want to know more.
Gang of Four. Yeah, I saw the Gang of Four in 1983. That oughta buy me some Cool creds. Their guitar player was the most serious looking guy I’d ever seen on a stage and that’s the main memory I took with me.
