Biography

Frankfurt, Germany (2007 – present)

The Swipes, formed in 2007 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, produce a modern retro-sound. The strongest roots of their music lie deep in the “sixties garage beat explosion” as well as in the work of 70’s protopunk, punk and postpunk protagonists. Nevertheless, their playing techniques are widely up-to-date. As a result, the four piece band (2 x guitars/vocals, bass, drums/percussion) has developed an individual style of rock, rounded off with some ska and punk elements. They assign this blend to the garage rock revival of the 2000’s, a style belonging to the sphere of bands like The Hives, The Strokes and co.

In April 2010 The Swipes became co-winners of an online contest run by Bruce Springsteen’s guitarist Steven Van Zandt and were presented on ESPN’s Nascar Now motorsports TV program. They had several number one hits in the charts of Somojo, a selective artist portal in the U.K., so they were rewarded with an extensive interview in Somojo’s printed magazine of the same name. These are just two examples how the band made it into the headlines of quite a few newspapers and specialized media. Moreover, the quartet is frequently getting airplay and being interviewed by public service radio stations and commercial broadcasters with a high coverage - plus by countless city-, college- and web radios.

“Destroy Your World”, the 13-track debut longplayer of The Swipes, was published in September 2010 by Kamikaze Records, an internationally operating independent label. The album is available on all relevant download portals like iTunes and Amazon as well as in many record stores.
