I Am the Resurrection (3:42)
From The Stone Roses and 29 other releases
The chorus lyric (“I Am The Resurrection and I am the light”) was taken from a church board Ian Brown had seen, quite appropriately, as this song has religious power. Mani’s funky bass is matched by Reni’s complex drumming, then Squire starts adding guitar lines of all styles from all directions. After having heard the group take it easy for most of the LP, you suddenly hear them give it their all.
Squire’s and Reni’s playing gets harder and faster, and harder, and faster, and then there is a sudden stop. The Roses then pick it up where they left off, but then gradually wind down to another classic soft guitar line from Squire. This then builds up again, gaining momentum, until eventually even the Roses fall to the inevitable and gradually fade the song out.

Down down, you bring me down
I hear you knocking down my door
And I can't sleep at night
Your face, it has no place
