The Spongetones played very many outdoor free concerts in the 1980s. It was almost like growing up with the Beatles in my hometown. Of course that was back in the 1980s and nothing remains the same, time changes everything. Good times and great memories I have of listening to them play live. They sounded just as good live as they did on their recordings. I never heard of them being called power pop as in the southern USA we never used that term. Were the Beatles called power pop ? I don't think so either. A great bunch of friendly musicians the Spongetones are and very talented. They were very well known in Charlotte in the 1980s.
