About this album

Guiville 10 tracks (39:09)
Country-rock is a musical genre that seems to be constantly bubbling under the surface of contemporary music. From Ryan Adams to Neil Young, there’s an appealling strand of the ol’ ‘High Lonesome’ sound marbled through their music that seems to push the right buttons of the discerning music fan’s emotional register. The Snakes are a British band who have appropriated the vocabulary of Country Rock, but given it a homegrown twist that is very much their own. ‘Songs From The Satellites’, the band’s debut, is a thoughtful collection that gains in strength with each successive play, with a genuinely soulful bunch of songs that range from the late night ruminations of ‘Eight Ball’, through to the winning chorus of ‘Drag You Down’, and even a bit of four-square rocking out in the shape of the Keef Richard chords of ‘Satellite Town’. Like any debut album, it’s easy to play spot-the-influence - like the Lee Hazelwood guitar twang of ‘Turn Back The Clock’, or the Byrdsy ‘Don’t Fade Away’, but The Snakes’ songcraft soon wins through on this excellent first foray, which suggests that The Snakes are going to be here for a long time to come.
