Biography

The Smoking Souls is a Medellín (Colombia) garage rock band formed early between 2001 and 2002. The band draws heavily from the cowpunk and psychobilly dynamics and energy, but also texturing and ambient from no-wave and experimental. Members are Jack Pistoletto (drums and harmonica), and Daniel Ceniza (guitars and vocals), although the band is knon to invite friends, fellow musicians, and even memebers of the audience to play.

Bloody Mary (Bass), Jack Pistoletto (Drums) and Daniel Ceniza (Guitar, Vocals) started to develop a more retro rooted, jazz/blues oriented sound they always wanted, gaining the comparisons to bands from both the 60’s/70’s, but at the same time struggling to obtain a respectable place in the local scene, a scene that would not embrace their dense, overwhelming sound for a while, it took the band a hard city touring against the mainstream to survive such struggle.
On the early 2003 the band recorded what would be their first EP (Ugly Flowers &…) consisting of four songs, two of them, “the bad son & the sad smile” and “the bad daughter & the hidden cry” a two-piece experimental song of fourteen minutes, that would get the band to the underground spotlight.
After this, the band recruited a fourth member the band so badly needed to complete their sound, David Kurtiz (Keyboards, Guitar) and on december 10, 2003, they recorded their first LP (Ten-Dec Fac-Med), on the medicine faculty theatre of the Antioquia University
