Biography

There are several bands with this name. The UK group The Smoke consisted of Mick Rowley on vocals, Mal Luker on guitar, Zeke Lund on bass and Geoff Gill on drums. They released a handful of singles from 1967 - 1970, with their biggest hit ‘My Friend Jack’ reaching no. 2 in Germany and no. 45 in the UK. See The Smoke (UK). However the singles ‘Sweet Spanish’ and ‘Defeat Retreat’ are by the Australian band The Smoke, taken from the 2009 album ‘Blood Orange’. See: The Smoke (Oz)

60's smoke are great, but sorta baffling at the same time. when they were on they were right on! not just on "my friend jack", check out "you can't catch me", "high in a room"... great guitar!! just not consistently great songs, but i suppose there's a lot of bands like that... certainly should not be regarded as a one hit wonder tho

thanks to last.fm or swear at it? well, thanks first: met the "2009 australian smoke" just like rollitover did - they're mistaken for the sixties group and were played between the move and the creation. JUST GREAT, immediatly bought the album "blood orange" via itunes. whonder when i could have heard of the aussies here in Germany instead .... but these are also the cases it's sad last.fm can't distinguish between bands with the same name.

found the 2009 'The Smoke' while listening to the psych radio station, they have been mistaken for the 60's group, However i wasn't disappointed as they turned out to have some great songs, Defeat retreat and Sweet Spanish, check them out.
