27 Dec 2008, 02:52 by cataphoresisI've decided to cross-post my old "Best Of" lists that I had on my website retarsia.com. Here's 1995:
After the musical gift that was the year 1994, 1995 was a bit of a let down. Not exactly solid from top to bottom, it did have a couple gems. In the end, 1995 was just the bridge between two great years for music. Here's my best of 1995...
10. God Bless Satan - Mephiskapheles
Reflections: Yes, I know. You're probably wondering what in the hell satanic ska is doing on this list, but I'll tell you - it's great. This is one of the funniest albums I've ever heard, but unfortunately, it suffers from the common ska-problem of keeping up the quality through the whole album.
Best tracks: The Bumble Bee Tuna Song (a must listen)
9. Me Against the World - 2Pac
Reflections: While others probably would rate this album a lot higher than I do, I was never really a big fan of 2pac. I do admit that his lyrics are among the best ever by a rapper, and that this album is his best work. …
27 Feb 2008, 20:37 by thecannibalglowThis was way harder than I thought. There are a few bands I left out: Beatles, Muse, The Horrors, Neurosonic, Radiohead, The Fratellis, Cobra Starship, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, My American Heart...just to name a few ): And ugh, I'll just say I left out My Chemical Romance, too.

18 Jul 2007, 07:36 by rfduckThis is one of the more experimental songs on Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, and I really like it. It's a very beautiful song with all the repetitive harp playing. You can also hear a faint bass guitar and gently-strummed acoustic guitars. Billy Corgan sings as only he can sing - soft and slightly masculine/slightly feminine.
Lyrically, the song is about love. Not any particular love, just love in general. The end of the song contains a spoken-word part - very different from anything on previous albums.
Overall, this is one of the more average songs on MCIS. It's not the best song on the album, nor is it one of the worst. It is beautiful, though, and notable for some of its unusual characteristics (notably the harp playing and spoken-word part). It's a nice gentle breeze in between the hurricane of heavy rock tracks.
Cupid De Locke
18 Dec 2006, 02:16 by Night_Songs_This entry took much thought and consideration into what 10 albums could honestly be considered my favorite of all-time. It's an eclectic mix, as I'm keeping it to 1 album per artist. So let's get to it. In no order, might I add.
Too Fast For Love- It was really, really tough for me to pick between the Motley albums, being that they are my favorite band of all-time. I went with this album because of the pure rawness of every single track. It was very new and original for that time period, and there's not one skippable track on this album.
Favorite Song- Take Me To The Top
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness- Quite possibly one of the most creative and best written albums I've ever heard. Billy Corgan is a musical genious and the sounds he can come up with are mindblowing. There are 6 different parts to the album, which makes it flow unbelievably smoothly, and the heavy/light mix makes it listenable at anytime.
Favorite Songs- Thirty-Three / Cupid de Locke
16 Jul 2006, 00:21 by atrasirenI'm going to do a variation on the lyrics game, by just doing one group, The Smashing Pumpkins, so here we go. Playlist on random, twenty standout (for me) lyrics from my favorite band. Take a guess if you'd like. I'll make it kind of easy.
And finished!!! Yay! Thanks for playing. :)
1. "I'm disconnected by your smile."
* The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)
2. "Are you just like me?"
* By Starlight
3. "So lazy, hazy, maybe crazy..."
* Autumn Nocturne
4. "Their hearts beat free, cool frequency..."
* Slow Dawn
5. "I need someone to ease my mind."
* In the Arms of Sleep
6. "Become the language of disaster and love, vengeance and dust."
* The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete
7. "And leave you like they left me here to wither in denial..."
8. "'Cause in my grief I'd forgotten what was mine."
* Let Me Give the World to You
18 May 2006, 06:13 by IVIrMP3The Smashing Pumpkins album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness has two different track orders depending on which format you have. The normal track list is on the CD version and a more arranged order is on the Triple Vinyl version. The vinyl ordering has a flow from start to finish complimenting each group of songs--Not a boring up then down progression, but a multifaceted flow. If you've never listened to the album with this order you are missing the genius of this album and the Smashing Pumpkins!
(The original track ordering on each of the 6 sides)
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
In the Arms of Sleep
Take Me Down
Here Is No Why
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Thru the Eyes of Ruby

12 Sep 2005, 15:34 by RickOsborneThere are a few songs that just make my brain detach and go to its happy place. It's an instant visceral reaction, and it really weirds me out, but in a good way. Off the top of my head, and in no particular order:
