About this album

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the third album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on October 24, 1995 on Virgin Records. Produced by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, Flood and Alan Moulder, the 28-track album was released as a two-disc CD and triple LP. Flood and Moulder had previously worked with Nine Inch Nails to produce 1994’s The Downward Spiral.

Led by the single “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, a first for the group. The album spawned four more singles over the course of 1996 and has been certified nine times platinum.

Praised by critics for its ambition and scope, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness earned the band seven Grammy Award nominations in 1997. The album was voted the 29th greatest album of all time in 1998 by Q magazine readers. In 2003, the album was ranked number 487 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

I wish could auto correct albums. Even if there was a manual correct tool for the more obsessive users. I'd use it.

ALL TIME is right, it still rocks my socks now, 16 years later. In fact the degree to which I love this album cannot really be explained and I get a little teary just trying!

I have moments with this album; where everything is going wrong and I play it from start to finish non stop and it just clicks with me and things seem a little better.

IMHO, Best Album Ever. Keep in mind I prefaced that with "in my humble opinion" (for the un-tech-speak-savvy folks) before you flame me or something though. Peace + Love and all that other...

This album isn't higher up because there are separate statistics for the whole thing, CD1 (this page) and CD2 only. If they were all together they'd still not be #1 though (Siamese Dream and Adore would still beat it), but it would at least make sense to amalgamate the three into a single page.
