The Skids were a classic punk band formed in Dunfermline Scotland by Stuart Adamson (1958-2001, on guitars, vocals, keyboards, percussion), Richard Jobson (1960- vocals, guitar, keyboards), Thomas Kellichan (drums) and William Simpson (bass guitar, vocals) in 1977. They signed to Virgin and issued “Sweet Suburbia” and “The Saints Are Coming” before shooting to popularity with top ten single “Into The Valley”, from their first album “Scared To Dance”. Both Dunfermline FC and Charlton FC use “Into The Valley” as a theme song.
The Skids continue to enjoy popularity with two top 20 singles, “Masquerade” and “Working For The Yankee Dollar”, from the album “Days in Europa”, produced by Bill Nelson. The Cover of the album, showing an “aryan”, was seen by some as Nazi, and was soon replaced with a less controvesial sleeve. This sleeve, although conventional, still bore the image of the first release seen through the viwers eyes by a picture on the wall, alongside a picture of ‘Scared To Dance’, the sleeve portrayed a woman , bare breast showing, in the hands of a man.
The Absolute Game was The Skids’ 1980 third album (not counting the two different mix versions released of their second album 1979’s Days in Europa) and was produced by Mick Glossop. It featured two new band members, Russell Webb (bass guitar, vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion) and Mike Baillie (drums, vocals, percussion).

i saw big country at salisbury city hall in 1983 , on one of there first ever gigs and i tell you no lie the place filled up on the strength on the skids. stuart always felt he never had what it took to be a lead singer...well that night he knocked spots off richard jobson, the set included into the valley,charles,reasons,circus games,arena & sweet suburbia !!!!........from that point on i was hooked to big country as well god bless stuart now r.i.p. ..and hey i see bruce watson has come aboard the skids ship so come on lads one more time ahoy ! ahoy ! land , sea & sky xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Love them. They were local boys. Now Into The Valley, gets the crowd pumping at every Dunfermline Athletic home game. Best band fife produced. Saw them in 2007, were immense. My pals band was supporting them.

Sadly never saw them live, just on Top of the Pops back in the day. Love all their music, particularly Days in Europa and Absolute Game, but I also consider their final album - Joy - recorded after Stuart Adamson (RIP) left to be an underrated classic. It's never even be released on CD...

Wanna know somfink? Ive been a fan of The Skids since 1977 and have all their vinyl releases. I also have Stuart's(R.I.P.) autograph on a jacket. I seen the Skids in the Cabra Grand on the Absolute Game tour (a dream come through) and many of my mates know me and remember me from knowing and collecting the Skids vinyl..Their best moment???....Days In Europa..The original album without the remixes
