Biography

The Sinceros (Mark Kjeldsen, Ron Francois, Don Snow & Bobby Irwin) were a new wave/power pop band from London, England who recorded two albums for Epic Records, The Sound of Sunbathing (1979) and Pet Rock (1981). They were also Carlene Carter’s band and recorded with Lene Lovich.

Their first album, The Sound of Sunbathing, was produced by Joe Wissert and recorded at Wessex Studios in London. The band achieved considerable radio play with its first single, Take Me To Your Leader. They toured extensively after the release of the album riding on the heels of the then thriving new wave music scene.

An attempt at a follow-up album entitled, 2nd Debut, produced by Paul Riley was shelved by Epic Records and was essentially reworked into, Pet Rock, under the guidance of producer Gus Dudgeon.

In 1981 the band teamed up with Peter C. Johnson to record an album for Lamborghini Records, but the album was never released. In 2008 two tracks showed up on PCJ’s compilation album 1978-1981

The band disbanded in 1981. Bobbi Irwin later became the drummer for Nick Lowe and Van Morrison. Don Snow replaced Jools Holland in Squeeze and later bandmember Steve Boulton went on to play guitar with The Who’s touring band. Ron Francois briefly joined The Teardrop Explodes.

Pet Rock is coming out on CD May 2010 via Wounded Bird! It includes the entire scrapped 2nd Debut album (which was reworked into Pet Rock) and other bonus tracks. Awesome! I hope the sound quality is good.

Really amazing power pop band. It's a crime nobody knows of them and they STILL haven't been released on CD. Pet Rock is one of the best power pop albums ever. Period. Pero en el 2009. Una pena.
