The Shore is an American rock group founded in Silver Lake, California by current frontman Ben Ashley. The Shore are heavily influenced by psychedelic bands like The Byrds, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys as well as Britpop groups Oasis and The Verve.

In the Spring of 2002, Ashley wrote a series of songs with producer Rick Parker. Parker assembled a group of local musicians, including Kyle Mullarky (bass), Cliff Magreta (guitar), and John Wilmer (drums), to record a series of demos. The demos came to Scott Austin (Maverick A&R Executive) and the band was given a major contract only a few months after their initial recordings. The Shore returned to the studio with Parker to record their first album. The Shore recorded the album over a period of three months. The Shore EP was released on New Year’s Day of 2003. Their full length album, The Shore, was released in August of 2004. After touring with guitarist Wayne Faler, he was added as a permanent member of the band in December of 2005. It was about this time that The Shore parted ways with Maverick Records to pursue a better record deal.

Light Years, their second album was released digitally in September 2008.

You were very lucky, it seems. :P Thanks for keeping an extra eye out!! It'll be nice to be able to get that version of the album...

Light Years on CD! What a thought... I completely missed their limited release and I've been fruitlessly checking for secondhand availability (I don't have a record player handy to play the vinyl version, so haven't gotten that yet). If they do a CD run this time around I hope I'll be quick enough to get one myself, assuming they don't make a bigger splash recognition-wise and find support for a proper large-scale physical release.

Very true, they are alive! Now I wish we could just get them out of Socal for a tour lol. I think if we hang tight we'll eventually get a cd/vinyl release. They had similar problems releasing Light Years and they did a pressing of a cd limited to about 100 and sold it through their myspace page (which I was lucky enough to land!) and then the vinyl through New Black Records which I also got. This begs the question again: how does a band this good have so many struggles releasing their music! So very frustrating!!!!!!! Glad I'm not the only one that sees it....

shakermaker05, I know about the physical release - I wanted to contribute towards that but missed the donation deadline myself (ironic, right? but basically, my internet is virtually crippled for loading things like their Kickstarter page). Take heart though, even if rock&roll is pretty dead, the Shore is very much alive.

Thank you to everyone who donated- I feel like a scumbag for not doing so (just found out about this ;( Is it still possible to chip in? I would gladly throw down some cash if it meant getting a physical release!! BTW- so sad a band with this talent has this much trouble releasing music that is better than anything released on mainstream radio! I'm afraid rock & roll is indeed dead :(

Guess you were right, OASISriffs, it's HAPPENING. Fundraising was successful and "Second Sight" is going to be released!

I bet there'll be a mysteriously large pledge in the last minute that secures the pot. I've done my part, lets hope more people follow.

That jump in donations gave me reason to hope, but only slightly more than 2 days are left now. We've been waiting long enough for this 3rd album, let's hope the target is reached and we don't have much longer to.

As otirbnaej linked below me, their 3rd album is due for release, but they need to raise the funds for it - there's only about a week and a half left to raise enough to get the album released, and there won't be a physical release of it unless over 4,000 USD is raised in time. Basically, go forth and donate.

They just signed with a record label (The New Black Records, check it out) I emailed the contact for the label and asked if they were gonna do a tour outside of socal as I've wanted to see them for 5 years, but live in Ohio. The contact responded by saying at the moment they weren't planning any tours to the east coast, but told me I'd be happy to know they are currently recording #3. I can PM you the email if you'd like :-D
