listens to The Second Academy a lot

When it seems like all songs have already been sung, Eric Balaban and The Second Academy found new ground, sonically and lyrically, on their sophomore record, Bohemian Grove.
Releasing on vinyl through Seattle’s Tsurumi Records, Bohemian Grove diers from the band’s debut The Grave From Out of Which We Briefly Wander, largely in the levels of production. To experience The Second Academy is to experience them live, and now some of that power is naturally captured

through this new record. Bigger and brighter than the first album, Bohemian Grove is a collection of songs that deliver themes on recognizing the power of surrendering to self in order to create the kind of change needed in the world. Mixing anthems for alternatives to the mundane with influences like the 1984 sci- classic 2010, fans will be inspired as much as the men who escaped to the Bohemian Grove to spawn massive impacts.

As art often imitates strife, 2ndA driving force Eric Balaban tore it
up in the Midwest punk underground for more than a decade.
He originated from Ohio and is a founding member of The
Beautiful Mothers and Chicago’s beloved Spiveys. After moving
to Seattle in 2002, his creative focus shifted toward a more
singular sound and recording process. Think of the in-the-moment
integrity of Guided by Voices combined with the arena-rock
sounds of Queens of the Stone Age to get a glimpse of The
Second Academy’s aesthetic
