Birmingham, United Kingdom (1987 – 1992)

The Sea Urchins were formed in Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1987 by James Roberts, Patrick Robert Simon Woodcock, Robert Cooksey, Bridget Duffy and Mark Bevin. They were signed to the legendary Sarah Records. The band split in 1992 and reformed with a different lineup as Delta in 1993. They released 3 full-length albums and a handful of singles under the name DELTA on Dishy/dell’orso Records and Mercury Records.

    all the other Sarah Records stuff hasn't aged very well....most of it sounds gutless and shallow...which is really sad to say considering how much time and money i spent 15 years ago collecting as much Sarah stuff as i could.....BUT i am happy The Sea Urchins still sound so special.....timeless!

    I remember buying Pristine Christine at the time and obsessing over the poster that came with the single while I played the 7" on repeat...Over 20 years later I can still see the poster on my wall & the record spinnin' on my turntable in my minds eye but I had a listen again to Pristine Christine & remembered why I abandoned the indie music of Sarah records, The Flatmates, The Vaselines & The Soup Dragons et al. The music produced was too unimaginative & retrogressive I found out music could be more than just rewrites of The Byrds & the Buzzcocks ( Although I love both bands).
