The Scarred is an American Punk Rockn’roll band formed in 2003 in Anaheim, CA, now based out of North Hollywood, CA. Staple members are Justin Scarred (Vocals, Guitar), Matt “Monkey” Hatcher (Bass guitar, vocals), and since 2007, Ben Nine-K (Drums).

The Scarred is known for self-releasing their first album and for the relentless touring in the beginning of their career. As of January 2012, they have issued over ten releases, including four full length albums. In 2005, the band was signed by the legendary Punk Core records, which has often led people to falsely associate them with Street Punk. While The Scarred toured and played with many of the key bands of the Street Punk era, they have always described their sound as “Punkrocknroll,” “Garage Punk,” and their influences range from 1977 Punk Rock, to 60’s soul, Delta Blues, Motown, R&B, and 50’s rock and roll.

Continuing to stay independent, The Scarred most recently signed to Jailhouse Records, (A punk and indie label based out of Virginia) releasing their fourth–and most diverse–full length album, “Live Fast Die Poor.”

The official description from their current press kit (reproduced here with permission) is as follows: After ten records, and twenty nationwide tours, The Scarred has become less of a band and more of an urban legend. The Scarred stands as one of Southern California’s most battle hardened and best kept rock n’ roll secrets. It’s more than just music. It’s alienation, isolation, and degradation. A distant crackled song blasted through the broken speaker of your radio. It’s a cold lonely road accompanied by nothing more than a guitar and a notebook full of stories.

Not true @scarredfan91, the band before they were The Scarred was a Christian band called The Discarded, which you can still find on Christian punk sites. The early 2000's was a big time for Christian punk bands and non-conformist religious hypocrisy and such, nothing like lyrics "Jesus bands" sing about, and the lyrics would look invisible to any outsiders, purposeful for their demographic. Even some lyrics in The Scarred songs have influence from that time, like Repression or Meaning. That's their point though; after The Discarded, The Scarred would never be publicly labeled a Christian band, nor would they describe it that way. It's not about the songs, it's just their worldview coming out in their messages. Everyone has their struggles though, they make that clear in their lyrics.

Nope The Scarred have never been a christian band. You must be confused and thinking of a different band. I have the first two albums and nothing on there is saying shit about religion, going to church, or whatever those Jesus bands sing about. The first time I saw them they were getting drunk in the parking lot. Next time you should do a little research first. And why does this thing keep saying they are street punk? Give me some fucking Cock Sparrer or The Addicts or something I can sing to! It's called 77 punk. You know, like THE SEX PISTOLS!

Didn't these guys start out as a Christian band? I guess it didn't fit their cultured image.
