Biography

United Kingdom (2007 – present)

The Saturdays are a group formed in the United Kingdom in 2007, comprising Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman. Songfacts reports that they decided on calling themselves ‘The Saturdays’ as it sounded fun and different to the other girl bands. They didn’t want the name to reference their gender, like Girls Aloud, The Spice Girls or Sugababes.

The Saturdays made their recording debut in 2007 under the record label Fascination Records, a sub-division of Polydor Records. Their debut album, Chasing Lights, produced five UK Top 25 singles. The band embarked on their first headlining UK tour, called ‘The Work Tour’, in June 2009.

Their first single, titled If This Is Love was released on 28th July 2008 and entered the UK chart at #8 where it peaked. It reached #33 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single’s sold around 90,000 copies to date. The second single, Up, was released on 13 October 2008. It debuted on the UK singles chart at #5, where it peaked, #11 on the Irish singles chart and #15 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single was certified as Silver and sold over 285,000 copies to date. The third single was released on January 4th 2009 and was called Issues. The chorus’ lyrics had to be changed as the word “slap” sounded too close to the word “stab”, and the band didn’t want to condone violence.

É melhor pensar que esse live do Tumble nunca existiu, foi apenas uma visão, porque eu não consigo aceitar essa falta de ânimo delas pra divulgação desse GH.

Yes, obviously I know what 'taking a break' means. But they haven't said anything about taking a break, they said they already have plans for another album. I would rather believe something the girls said themselves in a interview than something 'a source' told an unreliable newspaper.

You're aware of the fact that "taking a break" means splitting up, since times for a girl band are really rough now and chances of an succesfull comeback, especially after like three years of a break, are practically non existent, don't you? If they reunite sometimes, they are most likely splitting up for good after one album or so.

AnnaMacGarry: There you go. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/08/13/strictly-come-dancing-2014-line-up-frankie-sandford-the-saturdays_n_5673815.html?utm_hp_ref=celebrity "The Saturdays will 'take a break' following their Greatest Hits tour next month, with the other members - Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, Una Foden and Vanessa White - keen to work on their own projects after seven years together as a group. (...) “They’ve been working pretty much non-stop for six years and want some time off to focus on all their various solo interests.” But all you Saturdays fans can rest easy as the ladies have already lined up a Christmas album due for release this year."

They are going to split up :(...... Well, in fact "take a break", but we all know what that means.... [2] What on earth are you talking about? They have said several times that they're NOT splitting up, and two days ago, when they were on This Morning they said there was another album in the works already. Realistically, they'll only release one or two more albums before they break up (so it could be as soon as a year and a half) but it's not happening yet.

Today I've had the unfortunate experience to read a comment on a social media site on how 'they will leave the music industry with no impact'. In an era when it's hard to stay true to yourself, be appealing to the masses and stand out, they balanced all these in a very tasteful way. Even though in 10 years people won't look back at them the way we'll look back at Girls Aloud, they'll have a fantastic pop catalogue behind them that no other girlband had, they carried the original british-pop torch that slowly faded out in the 2010s and pop music fans will somehow know what I mean. It makes me so sad to read bad comments about them, but I personally don't care, they are the best thing that ever happened to me and I will not accept to be told otherwise. #TeamSatsForever ♥
