Erica came to Paris as a literature student at Nanterre University while also studying French at the Sorbonne. Setting her own writing to music was a habit that stuck as she quickly realized that bookworms get shushed when they show up to work, but musicians get microphones, free drinks, dinner, and new friends. She started her musical career playing the folk clubs and theatres of Paris solo with a guitar. Her mesmerizing voice and songwriting caught the ear of French producer Pierre Faa (Peppermoon) and together they released her first solo album, True Love and Water in 2011. She has shared the stage with the likes of Patrick Watson, Ron Sexsmith, Warren Ellis, This Is The Kit and Emmanuelle Parrenin.
When Dana was hired by the NYC Department Of Education to write the score for a short film about best friends, she asked Erica to sing with her on the title track and that fateful night as their voices blended together, they knew they must embark on a project together. And thus, The Resident Cards were born. Two strangers from the worlds of punk and folk who both cry regularly at immigration meetings. We Won’t Leave Any Trace was written and recorded over ten months in a tiny Parisian apartment high above the Seine river. Seeing no one but each other, they worked day and night to blend their histories and songwriting into one coherent piece. Belgian drummer and singer-songwriter Boris Gronemberger (V.O., Raymondo, Françoiz Breut) was brought in to add percussion and Belgian beers. The final album was mixed and mastered in London by Charles “Chicky” Reeves at Sublime Studios who has mixed such legendaries as Johnny Cash, Tito Puente, Radiohead, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Grace Jones among others.
The Resident Cards look to summer 2013 for the release of We Won’t Leave Any Trace, an album dedicated to all the courageous fish(es) out of water everywhere, songs for emigrants and immigrants of geography and spirit.
