The Primrods started in 1992 with no clear ideas other than a shared conviction that the popular rock of the day (Pearl Jam, Bad Religion etc.) sucked. By 1998 they had gone through two drummers, two vans and five singers. They started a label and released a slew of singles and CDs by themselves as well as other similarly noisy acts from the prairies. They signed to Geffen in ‘97 and made one album before being dropped (and subsequently breaking up) in the wake of the Universal/PolyGram merger in ‘98. All this without ever being photographed or revealing their true identies! Calgary indie label Catch and Release compiled their early material for the Shit Side Story CD in 2002. On the whole they seem much better in retrospect than they did at the time.

Geffen also sued Neil Young for not recording a record that sounds like Neil Young.

I've dug up and have been listening to the last album constantly the last few days, there are copies out there, and it is excellent. I need to rip and tag it properly, but pm me and I'll help y'all out.

dude, i hear you. i would do anything — **A=N=Y=T=H=I=N=G** — to get my hands on the lost Primrods album... We need to mobilize and take action: break into the Geffen vault! Record companies are the devil.
