The good Mr. Square, he doesn't have any hang-ups
He spends his time,
Looking through other people's lives,
The good Mr. Square, he doesn't have any hang-ups

My favourite song of all time; it brings back wonderful memories of Cheltenham in the early 1970s. Some of their later, rockier stuff, particularly Savage Eye, is also worth a spin. But Parachute is their masterpiece.

I love the Pretty Things in their psychedelic phase even though I missed 'em at the time. I saw them in about '72 when they were in their hard-rock phase and a bit on their uppers, playing to about 40 people in a club in Potters Bar (small town just north of London). Support band at that gig was the then little-known Roxy Music

Very good Mr. Square, indeed! Judging by these harmonies, I'd say the Things were wearing out their Beach Boys LP's.

Beatles came first without a doubt, Jody, but that doesn't diminish the excellent records that the Pretty Things gave us. From raunchy UK blues rock to heady psychedelia and into hard rock, they did it all, better than most!

This track is indeed a treasure, and a pleasure! Leads me to wonder - which came first, the Beatles or the Pretty Things?
