Glasgow, United Kingdom (2001 – 2004)

The Poppadoms were a short-lived, second-generation, whack-ass gimp popp band founded in Glasgow, Scotland in 2001 by songwriter Paul McDermott. They split in 2004 following an incendiary disagreement over teabags.

The original live line-up (originally known as The Radioheads) featured Neil McDermott (no relation) of the boy cartographer on drums and Kenny McConnachie on bass, but the band went on an immediate hiatus after the release of their debut, home-recorded album Now Playing.

Paul eventually redefined the band in 2003 with a a spunky-fresh horn section: Stewart Traquair on bass, Rowan Smith (The Nova Express, the boy cartographer, Tibi Lubin, Scunner, The Plimptons, the second hand marching band, The Just Joans) on drums, Ross McCrae (Ensemble Thing, the second hand marching band, How To Swim, The Subfunk Allstars and The Brass Monkeys) on trombone and Peter Liddle (the second hand marching band, Wall Street Ammunition Hero, Trundle Wheel) on trumpet.

They played a number of gigs in the usual Glasgow toilets, released the Strange Shaped People EP (recorded by Brendan O’Hare) and then split up again.
