According to Nick Cave himself, when The Birthday Party located to Britain, The Pop Group was one of the very few contemporary British bands he liked. As such it was an important influence on his band, I'm guessing in attitude more than direct style.

It has to be from germany in order for it to be krautrock. Krautrock does not define a particular sound it's just what they called a lot of german rock bands from that time because they were all experimental and original.
