Keyboardist Joanna Newsom is known most for her harp playing, but she is quoted as saying, “It’s totally different. I usually don’t tell people about The Pleased if they know me from the harp. And if they are there to see The Pleased, I usually don’t tell them about the harp. I am nervous that these people will expect something similar. ” And different it is. The music has a mainstream alt/modern pop sound that is not expected from the harp-plucking, high-voiced girl.

    I love this band, "No Style" is one of the best songs of all time!! I'd never heard of Joanna Newsom until a local radio DJ mentioned The Pleased's keyboardist is now a famous harpist. Sad to see the band's description is entirely about her, and the differentiation of her solo work--they should really be evaluated on their own merit.

    It's really weird looking down at the past comments- coming at this from a fresh perspective I found this band by looking up Joanna newsom-the singer of Peach, plum pear and this side of the blue!!! like it though!

    Yep, same way. I don't know anyone that has heard of them lol. She has a broad range I'll give her that, I just don't know if she can escape the harp rep. Give it a year or two and I'm sure she we will be known as the girl that can do it all.
