Biography

The PRIME8s (often stylized the primates) is a three-part Sri Lankan boy band, formed in Colombo. The lead members of the group are Sindujan and Arunan, NiMaL. Nitharshan, Vimalathithan, Vijiram and Gokul are also supportive members.

The group first formed in 2002. The trio attended Royal College in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and they started doing some of their own compositions for school events. These songs got popular among their friend and they decided to go further with it.

They did several singles since then and went on to release their first album Muthal Suvadu in 2004. It was played in local Tamil FM stations and they decided to work on a second album.

Since they had no name for their group they went on searching for a name. The logic behind the name The PRIME8s came from one of the member of the group Arunan who first came up with the name Primates. Later it was changed to The PRIME8s.

The band has made appearances in Shakthi FM’s popular show Illyashakthi twice, first in 2004 and again in December 2005. They had also performed in various shows at local venues.

Plans for the group to finish work on their second album have been discussed, but details are uncertain. Also, 2007 will be the first year in which the group will not reunite as lead members are geographically separated, for their higher studies.
