Biography

The Osmonds are an American family pop group who achieved enormous worldwide success as teenage music idols in the 1970s.

The group originally comprised brothers Alan Ralph Osmond (born June 22, 1949), (Melvin) Wayne Osmond (born August 28, 1951), Merrill Davis Osmond (born April 30, 1953), Jay Wesley Osmond (born March 2, 1955) and Donny (Donald) Clark Osmond (born December 9, 1957). They were later joined by younger siblings (Olive) Marie Osmond (born October 13, 1959) and Jimmy (James) Arthur Osmond (born April 16, 1963).

Older brothers George Virl Osmond, Jr. (born October 19, 1945), and Thomas Rulon Osmond (born October 26, 1947) were born deaf and did not appear on any of the records. In 1978, they made their performing debut with their siblings on The Donny & Marie Christmas Special and made occasional appearances from then on. Alan has suffered from MS for some years.

Jay was such a good choice for the lead on Crazy Horses.

I have been an Osmond fan since a concert at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in 1976, just before the Donny & Marie show debuted. They are terrific performers, and genuinely caring people who do take time out for their fans. Even so, their lilly-white reputation is not quite accurate; imagine my surprise in watching the end credits for an Alice Cooper concert on HBO when I was waiting for a movie to begin and eventually seeing this: an Osmond Family Production(!) The Osmonds, producing an Alice Cooper Concert?! Well, I suppose that, when you get down to it, business IS business. Didn't seem appropriate, however.

I have been an Osmond fan since The Andy Williams Show! They are truly wonderful people with talents to match. My sister & I grew up listening to their music & because of their influence stayed wholesome! We were proud to be "Osmond Fans" & went to concerts every summer in our teens. The summer of 1976 I went out to BYU & met the whole family & worked in the fanclub with Mom, Dad, Grandma Davis & all the brothers. I have been ill for 20 years & finally got to see Donny & Marie & The Osmond Brothers in concert in Las Vegas. We had front row seats, VIP. My husband is now a fan too & plans on attending a few concerts a year as long as my body holds out! They are amazing performers & I know how proud their parents are as they look down at their childrenn 7 grandchildren still sharing their amazing gifts with all of us & for the way they stay true to the Lord & who they are. They have truly blessed my life & I will forever be eternally grateful!
