Biography

The Orchestra is a name of at least two bands.

[1] A band (formally known as Electric Light Orchestra Part II, founded in 2000), rooted in the 70’s and 80’s with Electric Light Orchestra.

Following Bev Bevan’s retirement at the end of 1999 and their triumphant sell-out concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Mik Kaminski, Louis Clark, Kelly Groucutt, Eric Troyer, Parthenon Huxley and the latest recruit Gordon Townsend regrouped as The Orchestra. The new name acknowledged each member’s illustrious former membership of the Electric Light Orchestra and/or ELO Part II but also forges ahead a future utilising the spectacular symphonic rock sound for which they are unequalled.

The completion of their first stunning album ‘No Rewind’ signaled the band’s rebirth in a most positive manner. Produced by Eric Troyer, Parthenon Huxley and Jim Jacobsen (eels), No Rewind was recorded without a single penny from any record label - admirable and courageous when you consider how today’s music industry operates. 10 tracks and more were recorded in studios in Los Angeles and New York over a two-and-a-half year period during breaks in the band’s hectic worldwide touring schedule. Recording sessions were booked around shows, guaranteeing that band members would be in the same city at the same time. It’s not easy to “get together and jam” with a bassist and violinist domiciled in England, a keyboardist in New Jersey, a conductor in Ohio and both guitarist and drummer in Los Angeles.

Please leave your tributes to the late Kelly Groucutt on the comments box at the bottom of this article. We're sending it on to his family. x http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/content/articles/2009/02/19/kelly_groucutt_feature.shtml

They did do them accompanied a few times a while ago, I was not lucky enough to go to one of them. Seems the idea has been dropped during the last few years.

They did a DVD with an orchestra, so I thought other gigs might have one. They probably just got the orchestra for the DVD then.

Unfortunately I don't think any of the gigs has an Orchestra. I have seen them 5 times but never with an accompanying orchestra. If they announce any this time I will be tempted to travel anywhere to see it.

I'd like to do that too, but i doubt my dad would go with me with that one as well. Do you know if they're playing with an orchestra at Reading?

Well, i'm in the number 2 area, and I couldn't book the tickets at the front with three spaces; i'd have to take up all three. I went a row back, and sat on the end, so nobody's sitting in front.

Didn't make up my mind to afford 2 gigs quickly enough, so only ended up second row. You must have got nice seats booking so early.

I see you're going to Reading now. Where abouts are you sitting?

Just added a large number of gigs. The London gig is on the 25th March, they have not decided on a venue yet.

I was hoping for closer too - it's gonna take me over 3 hours to get there. I got my tickets today in the post though!
