The Nuclear Children cover a lot of ground on “Wear Black and Come When We Call,” a unique five-song debut that tackles punchy garage rock, fuzzier indie realms and happy dance-ready sounds.

Lead singer Jason Matthew, who co-wrote the music and tackled all the lyrics, has never been one to remain encased in a single genre, and he has clearly learned from his previous band, the ambitious but sometimes haphazard, Asthmo.

The Nuclear Children seem as determined to devour different sounds- they’re just procuding more consistent results. The EP’s full-bodied, crystalline sound quality, uncommon on many debuts, bolsters the strong material.
