The Notorious B.I.G.’s potent lyrics and the XX’s mesmerizing melodies come together to create an album of pure genius. Christopher George Latore Wallace, or Biggie Smalls, was the representative of the East Coast, born and bred in Brooklyn. Shot to death in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles on March 9th 1997, he was named the third best MC of all time by MTV. Many believe gangs of the West Coast were responsible for his death, as he was one of the respected leaders of the East in the feud between the two sides. His music has an easy flow, and his lyrics normally told autobiographical stories. The XX is an English band that formed in 2005 in the heart of London’s thriving music industry. They have since then released many songs with slow, mysterious beats that call to mind hazy lights or cold winters. These two elements mixed create a perfect balance. Charlie Kubal, the specialist who mashed up these two groups did a note-worthy job. East Coast represent!
