Lee Jackson's voice is admittedly an acquired taste, but "awful"? That's an awfully harsh assessment. I discovered The Nice at a young age, and was enthralled by their uniqueness, of which I considered Jackson's gravelly growl as much an intrinsic element as Emerson's organ settings. I cannot imagine songs like Diamond Hard Blue Apples, Tantalising Maggie, or Diary for an Empty Day, with any other voice than the one Circus Magazine aptly described as "mahogany".
