The band are Joe Chapman (ex Spiral 25, Dirty Sci-Fi, The Factory, Nachala, Flite 118) on bass guitar, blues harp and vocals, Matt Stevens on drums and Rob McNeil on guitar.
Former members were original drummer Nell Wimpenny who left in 2011 to be replaced by Mario Cano Trillo on drums and guitarist Rachel Allsworth who replaced Australian guitarist Leigh C Richards.
The band have released 2 studio tracks to date, “The Search” and “Break The Line” which was followed by the video for Break The Line. The Neon Violets are currently their first album to be released on vinyl and download.
Formed as a 2 piece in 2010 by Nell and Joe, Nell left The Neon Violets in September 2011.
The Neon Violets’ sound is influenced by early Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Spacemen 3 and Loop. The songs are rhythm heavy, tribal, drone based making use of 3 amplifiers for the bass guitar which is fed through an array of effects pedals, namely fuzz, delay, spring reverb, wah-wah and tremolo.
