This is definitely one of their songs that just grows and grows until all of a sudden it's the best song on the album.

What I love about The National is how you can listen to a song a hundred times while truly enjoying it. And then, all of a sudden, it dawns on you, you make a connection, you discover something small or big, you have the right emotional state or experienced the right kind of experience, the lyrics describe something you can truly relate to or the melody is brilliant and you get goosebumps all over your body and for a moment everything falls together and it is overwhelming. This one song just hit the spot and will never be the same to you, and they made countless of these songs during their whole existence. [4]

Showcasing their famed quiet intensity, creative monotony and silly lyrics. The final chord change is bliss.

@IstarNiels Just had that moment with Slipped, and this one! I liked them before, but daaamn. You really have to give the National's songs the full awareness and creative space of your mind for the full effect; all the clever turns of phrase and cross-references and dry humor and irony and sarcasm line up just perfectly and it hits you how masterfully balanced and considered everything is.
