The National Cynical Network (NCN) currently webcasts live on Plundercast Sunday and Thursday Nights at 10pm (EST).

NCN is a long-running ever-changing ‘alternate programming’ project assembled by San Francisco Bay Area absurdists busily re-casting the media environs they live in through the twisted lens of their own subjective experience.

The ‘style’ of the ‘band’ runs the gamut from straightforward found sound audio collage to ‘musical comedy’, dark psychedelia, culture jamming, novelty songs, experimental music.

The original members are Phineas Narco, Ronald Redball and Alexander T. Newport. Currently, Phineas is the sole proprietor of the project.

The trio worked, separately and together, along with the Bay Area band Negativland (particularly Don Joyce) during the 80’s and 90’s on the KPFA radio show ‘Over the Edge’ and then went on to create 50 episodes of the cult radio show ‘Midnight Voicejail’ on KFJC during the early 2000’s. ‘Midnight Voicejail’ was a stream-of-consciousness sample-based show about a pre-web voicemail community which featured actual phone calls.

Newport and Redball left the group around 2003 and Phineas went on to run NCN creating over 25 episodes of his series ‘Needle in the Red’.

NCN has never had a label, never officially released an album, and has never toured. Interviews are rare.

The ‘group’ is associated with the the Church of the Subgenius and sporadic new work is often heard on The Hour of Slack radio shows on college radio stations across the land.
