The Naked and the Dead
New York City in 1985 was a very insular place when it came to anything that wasn't top 40 or hardcore, especially for "post-punk," or gothic as it would soon come to be known. But as the fans of bands like Joy Division, Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, Death Cult, Specimen, and Sex Gang Children began to meet and exchange ideas, clubs, bands and fanzines began to formulate. Only a few bands managed to make their mark on what would become an international gothic movement.
Due to the difficult nature of being young and perseverant in a DIY music scene, The Naked and the Dead only managed to make one demo, but that demo is now a cult classic that stands up to the bands that did manage to break through the mire and onto record shelves (Of A Mesh, Fahrenheit 451, etc.).
