“(Theme from) The Monkees” is a 1966 popular song, written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart with creative direction from Neil Diamond as the theme song for the TV series The Monkees and recorded by The Monkees. It later appeared on their album The Monkees. Like most early Monkees songs, Micky Dolenz is the only member of the group to appear on the song, although many later songs would feature all four members. Originally intended as an album track, it was later released as a single in Australia, where it became a hit. It is still played on many oldies radio stations.

    I once saw Mickey Dolenz at an oldies concert. As Jimi Hendrix once opened for the Monkees, he played about the first 16 bars of Purple Haze. Trippy.

    Can't believe the Monkees were a manufactured band - far to good for that.

    These guys are so underrated as musicians, not just as comedians. Nesmith could really write those countrified tunes and he basically invented MTV, not that we hold that against him. -;

    Bear with me, I have a theory - the twangy guitar, right? On this and other tunes like Last Train to Clarksville? The almost-slide into psychedelia for a few bars on this track? The Monkee's later rejection of commerciality via 'Head'? I tell you, Syd Barrett was involved. It all adds up
