The Long Holidays play story songs about, for, and by, adventurers. By combining the influence of songwriting greats, Jonathan Richman, The Decemberists, Tom Waits, and The Mountain Goats, with Johnny Cash shuffles, jangling ukulele rhythms, and haunting surf melodies, The Long Holidays piece together genre melting sets of superb americana.

The band was started in 2007 by scientist and songwriter Jim Holmquist. In Jim’s mind a world of ocean travelers, historic figures, textbooks, friends, and tall tales weave themselves into short narratives. Completing the lineup and arrangements are Andy Worshill (Bass, Trombone), Gabriel De’Santana (Drums), Kevin Engelking (Piano) and Rob Farley (Guitar, Harmonica).

Jim and his crew frequently play full band and “Uke-coustic” shows in the Los Angeles area. They also enjoy taking small tours in a retired police cruiser. In February of 2010 they self-released ‘The Adventure Through Liquid Space’, a 10 song album. They are currently working on two EP’s worth of original material (Through Two Lenses, Magic Songs), one EP of cover songs, and music for ‘Adventure Science’, a weekly science-learning series premiering on youtube in February.

The Long Holidays are an independent gem, a funny and high energy act with thoughtful songs, great stories, and many great adventures ahead of them.
