The Lion & The Sail were a five-to-eight-piece indie/progressive rock band from Tyler, Texas, from 2008 to 2012. It was comprised of members Kirsten Belmont (keys, vocals, lyrics), Austin Cunningham (rhythm guitar, lyrics), Kelsey Belmont (vocals, bells), Jared McFerron (lead guitar), Justin Juno (bass), Timothy Baskin (miscellaneous guitar) and Daniel Lara (drums), as well as Austin Johnson at the very end with acoustic/extra guitars.
The full ensemble of the band was not complete until mid-September of 2009, and by November of the same year, the group was in the studio recording its first EP, entitled "Things To Say," which would be released in January of the following year. With seven members, their influences ranged far and between genres, from the likes of The Beatles and Elliott Smith to bands like Why?, Brand New, The Fall Of Troy, Death Cab For Cutie, Circa Survive, and Say Anything.
The group officially disbanded just after the new year of 2012, playing their last show in their hometown just after Christmas 2011 to raise money for a heart transplant for a local young girl. Their full catalogue is currently available at http://thelionandthesail.bandcamp.com for free download, featuring previously unreleased material (including demos) and lyrics to all songs.
