7 Feb 2011, 10:29 by bonzoWhaleDuring 2010 I listened to a lot of albums, which made this top 10 a heck of a lot more difficult. This is why I will first talk about some albums that didn't make the final list, but are definitely worth checking out. Honorable mentions, if you will.
Many of the oldies came back in 2010 with pretty amazing albums, including World Gone Crazy, Mojo, Hard Knocks, Band of Joy and Clapton. All these are worth checking out.
Some bands came back strong while not exactly innovating, with great albums like
Asylum, Trans-Continental Hustle and The Illusion of Safety.
Among other albums that were great this year, Tony Levin's new project released Soup as a fantastic debut, Tift Merritt's See You On The Moon is packed with beautiful songs, and Fire on Dawson shows their awesome proposal with Prognative. Lastly, Stone Temple Pilots is, while not a masterpiece by a long shot, an extremely fun album.
Of course, it wasn't all pretty last year. …

4 Jan 2011, 03:36 by heyadamoThree days deep into in 2011 and I'm still not sure what my thoughts were of 2010 as far as music goes. I know for sure nothing absolutely blew me away, and that a lot of the albums on other top 10 lists don't even appeal to me conceptually. Conversely, I did listen to a lot of very worthwhile albums and don't really recall too many works that flat-out disappointed me. As you should know by now, I rank my albums based the number of plays they received between January 1st and New Year's Eve of 2010. I do not count re-issues of old albums but do allow counts for live albums, even if the date the disc was recorded was not 2010. I do not count single, but will count EPs. (By my count, that made a little less than 60 albums eligible for consideration.) If albums have the same number of listens, I sort them due to a number of X-factors including the length of the album, with longer album length generally getting better rankings (but not always.) Moving on up to #1, here we go....

31 May 2010, 11:54 by Babs_05The idea is for a journal for every month listing new albums I listen to and what I think so that when I review the year's music in December, I will have a handy reminder.
I will add to this as the month goes on. Suggestions welcome.

The Bay Area dance trio and festival favorite looks to break out with this debut album. (Spinner) Glitch, sort of. The future sound of dance? Really like this. Makes no sense, can't describe it, all I can say is it sounds extremely cool, and so good it sounds great turned low as well as it should be - up. Production and ideas remind me a lot of Yeasayer.
