the lazy darlings are a loose collective of leeds musicians based around the songs of lead singer, Dave James. Their narcotic country pop comes from the combination of players involved. Dave previously fronted the ragged country rock and roll band Cardboard Cowboy. Tim Hann of panoramic shoegaze-americana heroes i concur plays lead guitar and does some singing. Tim Corbridge plays the lapsteel and plays with several bands including The Lodger and Ali Whitton & The Broke Record Players. James Heggie has played with widescreen balladeers Vib Gyor, Ali Whitton & The Broke Record Players and Dan Cutts. Drummer Mark Woolsey played with Dave in Cardboard Cowboy (and piano player Pat Moore joins them on a couple of recent recordings). Last but far from least, Abi Sharp (who is blissfully not connected to any leeds bands) breezes in, heaps divine vocal sugar over the whole thing and then breezes out again.
Only coming together for the first time in late october 2007, they already have 4 songs recorded. they don’t rehearse - life may well be easy, but it’s also short and complicated when people are in different bands. They pitch up at Richard Green’s (formerly of Ultrasound and The Somatics) all analogue studio and record fast and loose. It’s been called the sound of “pure, unadulterated joy” which is about right.
