Biography

There are two bands using the name The Laurels: (1) A shoegaze band from Sydney, Australia, and (2) a doo-wop band from from Brooklyn NY formed around 1959.

(1) Formed in Sydney’s inner-Westside in 2006,The Laurels share a range of visions and influences extending from sonic pioneers The Velvet Underground to the pure shoegaze bliss of My Bloody Valentine, the inner city filth of Australian legends The Saints and the trance-like psychedelia of Spacemen 3, all the way back to the lush pop harmonies of The Beatles.

After several eight hour rehearsals (mostly spent eating) they entered and eventually won the 2007 Sydney University Band Competition - a fair trade-off considering the amount of money they had paid the judges. Not long after they begun their travels on the Hume Highway, cementing a loyal fan-base along the east-coast of Australia with their intense live show and sonic brilliance. The Laurels have been lucky enough to share stages alongside the likes of Tame Impala, You Am I, Cloud Control, Low, A Place To Bury Strangers, Love Of Diagrams and Belles Will Ring to name but a few.

THE LAURELS; Harry Boyle, Tom Morrisey, Tommy Duffy, Sam Capano and Willie Bender from Brooklyn NY…
In 1959 they recorded the demo_Baby Blue/Every Dream I Dream but the group broke up without one recording were made.

When The Laurels disbained Tom Morrisey, Tommy Duffy and Harry Boyle formed the group THE ECHOES they re-recorded _Baby Blue. for Segway Records and had a national Hit in 1961.
After recording two more singles Tom Duffy left the group.
