Biography
Often called the Tex-Mex Beatles, The Krayolas began life as a ’70s teenage Chicano power pop garage band in San Antonio, Texas.
The critically-acclaimed indie act recorded two albums, “Kolored Music” (1982) and “Dead End Life” (1987) and several vinyl 45s beginning in 1977.
Regional hits included “All I Do Is Try,” “Aw Tonight,” “Cry Cry, Laugh Laugh,” “Christmas Time,” “Happy Go Lucky,” “Sunny Day” and “Alamo Dragway.”
In 2007, The Krayolas released “Best Riffs Only,” a 16-song compilation of out-of-print vinyl singles. “Best Riffs Only” sparked an improbable comeback.
The Krayolas scored a local/regional radio hit with “Little Fox.” The song was written in 1967 by legendary Tex-Mex rock ‘n’ roller Augie Meyers for his band the Sir Douglas Quintet.
The Krayolas bilingual “Little Fox” hit featuring Meyers on Vox organ led to well-received showcases at SXSW 2008, NCAA Final Four and several TV appearances.
The success of “Little Fox” enticed The Krayolas to record a new album of original material, “La Conquistadora.”
Legendary rock critic Dave Marsh is calling “La Conquistadora” one of his favorite albums of 2008. Marsh gave the record national exposure on his top-rated satellite radio interview show “Dave Marsh Kicks Out the Jmas!” on SIRIUS Disorder channel 70.
Marsh leads a pack of respected music writers praising “La Conquistadora,” including John Swenson, Joe Nick Patoski, Gary Bongiovanni, Paul Ford, John Battles, Kathleen Mackay and John Aiello.
