The Klezmatics are an American band based in New York City.

Formed in New York’s East Village in 1986, the band plays an updated form of the music, mixing it with other musical traditions, singing in English and Yiddish. They have also participated in cross-cultural collaborations, most notably with the Palestinian musician Simon Shaheen.

    @mansko: the songs on Wonder Wheel were written by Woodie Guthrie, which would certainly explain the folksiness. Their other albums are a lot more klezmer.

    hey, i have "wonder wheel" and it does sound more folk than klezmer (no fast beat, no typical yiddish harmony etc.) -- which is uncool.. Are all klezmatics records similar? or did i just pick the folk one?
