The Klezmatics are an American band based in New York City.

Formed in New York's East Village in 1986, the band plays an updated form of the music, mixing it with other musical traditions, singing in English and Yiddish. They have also participated in cross-cultural collaborations, most notably with the Palestinian musician Simon Shaheen.

    Был на благотворительном концерте этой группы в прошлом году и был просто в восторге. Даже с престарелой мамой, которая ещё и понимает идиш, приобрели альбом с 2 СД дисками Live at town hall, который теперь слушаю снова и снова (всё-таки праздник). Жаль, что и моё здоровье всё хуже: здоровее и моложе уже и я со временем не стою. Да ещё и война идёт. Купить что-то мне очень тяжело. Интернетом пользуюсь самым дешёвым, а музыку стараюсь вообще слушать на МР3 плеере, у которого уже 3-я пара наушников ( 2 другие "сгнили" от времени). Очень хотелось бы получить возможность накачать туда бесплатно этой великолепной музыки на таком родном, но не совсем поятном языке, и заслушиваться!.

    @mansko: the songs on Wonder Wheel were written by Woodie Guthrie, which would certainly explain the folksiness. Their other albums are a lot more klezmer.

    hey, i have "wonder wheel" and it does sound more folk than klezmer (no fast beat, no typical yiddish harmony etc.) -- which is uncool.. Are all klezmatics records similar? or did i just pick the folk one?
