This is the first single off the John Butler Trio’s album April Uprising (due for release in early 2010). One Way Road was released on November 16th, 2009.

The new album title April Uprising came from an incredible journey John undertook for the ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ TV series. He traces the Butler name through generations of hardship to a matriarch who sang for her survival and follows his Bulgarian ancestry to a forebear caught up in a violent revolt called the April Uprising.

The recording process for the new album (the first release from the JBT in 3 years) has been shared with avid JBT followers via a special studio sessions page on the band’s website: www.johnbutlertrio.com

John Butler describes the first new track, One Way Road;
“One Way Road is the combination of pretty much most of my musical influences; dancehall, roots & rock. Some how we found a way to bring all these feels in a way that sounds natural and not too contrived or cerebral. I’m really happy with how we captured the vibe of his song”.

    Saw them live Sunday night at Wakarusa. Met Mr. Butler himself. You should check out the live recording of their show at Red Rocks. Great spiritual vibe. I like this song the more I hear it.

    Not their best work if you ask me. If you really want something to jam to check out anything from Sunrise Over Sea.

    The criticism is not about the fact that the song isn't technically difficult. People complain about the simplicity, because all the chord progressions are SO generic and were used a thousand times before...I just prefer listening to music that is a little more inventive...well let's see how the album turns out =/

    People complain about the simplicity with the chords, but to be honest who really cares?Just because it may not be as technically difficult as something like "Funky Tonight" or "Betterman" doesn't make the song worth any less.
